It is a student-run and student-operated program, staffed entirely by anonymous volunteers. Volunteers provide callers with a confidential, empathetic, and non-judgmental listener with whom to discuss any issues the caller may be dealing with. Volunteers are trained to listen to callers with issues ranging from relationship problems to mental health concerns and more. Since volunteers are not professionals, they focus on referring callers to long-term services.
It is required for new volunteers to attend a two hour in-person training session once a week, for an entire semester. Training shifts take place from pm - pm on either Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.
There will also be a required video to watch and a short quiz to complete prior to your training night. Recruitment status for all programs is communicated on the Madison House volunteer page.
