But a day after leaving Zurich, I found myself recovering in a town known for its healing thermal waters after running 20 miles across one of the smallest countries in the world. Bad Ragaz just happened to be on the way and I heard there was a nice spa there. I love spas. When I saw how close Bad Ragaz was to the border between Switzerland and Liechtenstein, the beginnings of an adventure materialized.
I wondered if it was would be possible to bus up to the top of Liechtenstein and run all the way back to my hotel. Turns out, not only was it possible, it was easily doable in a day. The next morning, I took a bus from Bad Ragaz to another small town called Sennwald and walked across the bridge separating Switzerland and Liechtenstein. For the next four hours, I stayed on that road and jogged across the length of an entire country in just under 20 miles.
The last time I went on a run before today was nearly 8 months prior and my legs were not happy. Lucky for me, I had already planned for a day of soaking and relaxing in the healing waters at the Tamina Therme bathhouse. Not what, but where. The translation for Bad Ragaz is literally Bath Ragaz. This small Swiss town is only a short hour train from the hustle and bustle of Zurich and has been a spa destination for hundreds of years dating back to Medieval Europe.
The famous Tamina Therme bathhouse here has been welcoming guests since the 19th century. Here, the thermal spring water bubble out at a warm My legs needed some healing.
Coincidentally, I happened to be visiting during the time where hundreds of internationally-renown artists had installed massive art sculptures all over the town as part of the Bad RagARTz exhibition.
