Holiday Inn Independence. Attorney's Office. District Court Judge Sara Lioi released hundreds of recordings Thursday that federal prosecutors played for jurors during Dimora's corruption trial. The recordings were never made public. A warning to readers: Many of the exhibits include offensive and crude language or graphic images. Investigators recorded Dimora and Coppers arranging to meet at a bar in the Doubletree Hotel on Rockside Road in Independence and then get a room in the nearby Holiday Inn.
Coppers eventually asked Dimora to set her up with a government job so she could receive state retirement benefits. The two met surreptitiously several times as Dimora tried to secure a job for Coppers, first with the city of Solon and ultimately with the Bedford Municipal Court, prosecutors said.
Lawyers detailed an affair between the two in a series of wiretapped phone conversations played for the jury throughout Dimora's trial. Coppers and Dimora knew each other before the affair. The former commissioner said he was a close friend of Coppers and her family. She also worked for Bedford Heights while he was that city's mayor. Coppers is the daughter of former Bedford Heights police chief Dominic Coppers, who died in at the age of She told Dimora in a March conversation that she missed him terribly and wanted to see him soon.
Later on in the conversation she told Dimora she was "really fing horny. Coppers told Dimora that sex with him was a "wonderful thing," and said she was looking forward to meeting with him in person. Coppers then briefly complained about the woman who took calls at Dimora's office. Dimora defended the woman, saying she takes to calls a day and she hears about bad things happening to other politicians. Dimora then asked Coppers if she was 40 years old yet, and she said she was still in her 30s.
The two eventually agreed to meet at Shula's, a bar inside the Independence Doubletree Hotel. Dimora said it shouldn't be that crowded and they could keep their meeting secret. After a lengthy trial, a jury found Dimora guilty of racketeering, bribery and other corruption-related charges in March and a judge sentenced the former commissioner to 28 years in prison.
