Both of these two phases were most likely related with the need of controlling the surroundings of Turin. The site is located on a fluvial terrace close to the road from Augusta Taurinorum Turin to the passage through the Susa Alpine valley to the Gaul, crossing here the Dora river.
Before the archaeological season this site was already known because of the S. Massimo ad quintum church, not further than 1 km away. According to the tradition, the church, which has three aisles, was built up by Massimo itself, first bishop of Turin, at the beginning of the 5th century p. The Gothic occupation is attested by a grave cluster, most likely used for members of the same family. The preserved part of the cluster is composed by 8 single graves, directly dug down into the soil: three of them contained males, three contained females and two contained non adult individuals fig.
