The women who police said were forced into prostitution in a ring run by Kilby Street gang members in Worcester were threatened, trapped in a hotel room and given heroin, according to recently unsealed search warrant affidavits.
A total of six women gave police statements as authorities investigated a human trafficking ring in the city. Authorities believe the women were forced into prostitution between December and May Elvin Gonzalez, 35, is the man prosecutors call the leader of the alleged prostitution ring.
Investigators filed a search warrant affidavit to obtain his Facebook records. Detectives believe Gonzalez used Facebook to speak with co-conspirators and set-up "dates" for the women.
The women told police they were forced to post ads on Backpage. Gonzalez, one woman stated, had the women stay in a hotel and he gave her heroin in exchange for the money she made, search warrants affidavits said. Another woman said the women were threatened if they tried to leave Gonzalez. Prosecutors said the alleged ring preyed on young women addicted to heroin. Members of the ring allegedly provided the women with crack as well. Women reported to police that they tried to leave, but Gonzalez allegedly became violent with them.
Gonzalez, according to police, told the women he would provide them shelter, heroin and crack if they worked as prostitutes for them.
