Mark Butler in a solemn and heartfelt processional. The procession began at Nobles Funeral Home in Navasota, then north along Highway 6 where they all slowed down near the crash site, where Sgt. Butler gave his life to protect others just over a week ago. The site along the processional was somber but powerful, with police sirens echoing down the highway, leading a long line of law enforcement and emergency vehicles from across the state.
Among those paying tribute was a towing company that worked closely with Sgt. Butler over the years and draped a flag over Highway 6 as a tribute to a man they consider a friend and hero.
He was a friend. We worked a lot of wrecks with Sgt. After the service at Central Church in College Station, the escort returned to Navasota for a private family service. Cypress resident Rebecca Halaska attended the service and pulled over to watch as the procession went by.
