Hey there! A while back I did a workshop describing how to decorate your home on a budget. Since summer is almost over insert sad face I know that many of you will be starting to get ready for the fall season, and then before you know it Christmas eeeekkk! As an Interior Decorator, I know that most people are either decorating to have their homes look beautiful in time for the company they'll be having at Christmas OR in time to enjoy it for the summer.
Decorating your home can get costly, but there ARE ways to save money. So, with that said, I thought I'd share the tips from the workshop I gave a while back so that you can save money on your next decorating project. PLAN Before you do anything else you need to plan.
Take inventory of the space you want to design or re-fresh. Do you have existing furniture that you would like to keep and use? Photo Credit: Natalie B. Click here to try one of our Budget Calculator. RESEARCH Now that you have the list of the items that you want to use in the design of your new space, go ahead and do some research to figure out which colours, styles, finishes, etc.
Pinterest is awesome for the research phase. When you're pinning, I find it's helpful to take note of what you like in each photo so you don't have to rely on your memory later on when you're trying to convey your vision to any of the retailers helping you to curate the furnishings for your new space.
Take note of the items you like and meet your budget. Make sure to read product reviews so that you get a good sense for how others feel about the furnishings and decor they purchased once they had them in their home so that you can avoid buying something that may disappoint you. If you're NOT comfortable purchasing online, now's the time to visit each retailer to see the items in person.
