Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. The gold-leaf outline of this glory cloud encompasses heaven Caelus, the top figure and earth Terra, aka Terrus, at bottom , two realms connected by Christ himself.
Earth is his footstool! That is, part of his throne. He holds a globe in his right hand and is surrounded by symbols of the four evangelists the tetramorph —each supported by a water nymph representing one of the four rivers of paradise —and Sol sun and Luna moon. From our limited human perspective, it can be hard to see the divine reality that this artist is pointing to.
