This position is open to experienced nurses and new grad nurses. The Ambulatory Care Registered Nurse RN is accountable for the delivery of direct patient care including patient education in the outpatient setting. RNs may be expected to cross-cover if patient needs dictate. The procedural RN, in the endoscopy suite, works in the procedure room alongside of the MD performing tasks and maneuvers as delegated to them from the Endoscopist.
This hands-on position requires great technical skills as well as a vast knowledge of anatomy and physiology. The procedural RN plays a key role in collaborating with the MD and other members of the health care team to provide the best care possible to the patients.
Procedural RNs set up a room according to procedure type, MD preference and therapies or diagnostics that are ordered for the procedure. This environment is fast-paced, highly unpredictable and requires extreme attention to detail. The role requires expert critical thinking, attention to detail, time management, multi-tasking and the ability to function autonomously in an unpredictable environment. The ability to comfortably manage multiple computer applications is essential.
A separate application or enrollment process is not required. All nurses new to Mayo Clinic, regardless of experience, will receive an extensive orientation program. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
