It was built in the 17th century in the historic city center, now included in the "protected area" due to the richness of its heritage character. Itself protected as a historic monument, the building has terraces overlooking the Cours de l'Isle. Its construction was commissioned by the de Cablanc family hence the hotel's other name which gave several mayors to the city.
The building was then based in part on the Barbecane tower, a vestige of medieval fortifications. Several owners succeeded each other and in the Barbecane tower was razed to allow the development of the imperial road from Paris current boulevard Saumande.
Architecturally, the building takes the form of a dwelling made up of two angled wings joining to the north-west. On the rue de l'Abreuvoir side, the facade is blind and adorned with false windows.
