You can view the doorstep of Federal Minister Cem Γzdemir, the African Union Commissioner for Agriculture, Josefa Sacko, and the Brazilian Minister for Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture, Paulo Teixeira, here again. Adequate food must be available, accessible and affordable for all. The implementation of the FAO Voluntary Guidelines on the Right to Food should be strengthened and publicised more effectively.
Agroecological approaches, organic farming, agroforestry systems and a circular economy should help to halt the climate crisis and the loss of biodiversity. Regional cycles and regional supply chains, as well as sustainable consumption, should be promoted. Vulnerable groups are particularly affected by food insecurity, malnutrition and multiple crises and should therefore be strengthened. Equal participation, especially of the younger generation and women, is of crucial importance.
The unequal treatment of women in agriculture is to be reduced by empowering women in agriculture, including in leadership positions. Women are to be given better access to land and resources.
Sustainability requires functioning structures. This applies in particular to secure land rights, access to high-quality seeds, and fair access to financial resources and rural infrastructure. Cross-sector coordination and policy coherence should be promoted for a systemic approach. By , food waste and losses along the entire value chain are to be drastically reduced. To achieve this, we need not only specific targets but also effective measures. Food losses and waste must be measured and all stakeholders must be committed to participating β from primary production to private households.
Sustainable fertiliser production and use should be strengthened in order to stabilise yields and avoid a global supply shortage. Fertiliser management should be part of integrated, sustainable soil management. Countries of the global South should be supported in the sustainable production of fertilisers. We are very much looking forward to our keynote speaker Helmy Abouleish, CEO of Sekem and President of Demeter International! Helmy Abouleish is also Chair of Ecotec, the Sekem Development Foundation and the Board of Trustees of the Heliopolis University for Sustainable Development.
