Orthodontic evaluation and treatment can start from as early as 7 years of age.
At Larson Orthodontics, we have the perfect environment and appliances to help patients of all ages. Braces are a great appliance to help enhance the appearance and feel of your smile and bite. There are various types of braces that we offer, including traditional metal braces and clear braces. To learn more about braces, simply call our practice!
The most common version of braces is traditional metal braces, which are more comfortable than ever before with their sleek, low-profile design. Metal braces use metal brackets and archwires to straighten your teeth and are made of high-grade stainless steel. Colored elastics rubber bands can be added to metal braces to create a more distinctive and colorful look and are used to hold the wire in place. In fact, many modern braces are constructed of transparent or tooth-colored materials to give patients a more appealing, less conspicuous option than classic braces.
Clear braces work just like traditional braces. Most often, orthodontic treatment is completed in a single phase of comprehensive treatment; however, there are certain cases that can benefit from early interceptive orthodontic treatment. Early treatment is started when there is a mix of baby teeth and adult teeth present and can reduce the need to remove permanent teeth in the future, resolve jaw growth issues to reduce the need for surgical treatment, correct crossbites, reduce the risk of damage to permanent teeth, and help stop habits like thumb sucking.
Phase I orthodontic treatment will often include an expander and limited braces. Phase II comprehensive orthodontic treatment is still needed in most cases to establish a healthy bite and alignment of all of the permanent teeth. Invisalign is very popular among adult patients, but can also be a great option for teens who are disciplined and committed to their aligner schedule..
