Henderson about to tighten rules on massage businesses. The city wants to make sure new massage businesses that open are legitimate, and not fronts for sex trade. The City Council will discuss the idea at its Tuesday meeting. Josh Harry runs Massage1 in Henderson. It's been successful for nearly two years. He says it's not easy to get a license for massage establishments in Henderson.
Harry says his massage clinic does everything by the book. Henderson's City Attorney Josh Reid says most of them do, but because there have been problems with some so-called business that claim to offer massages, Henderson wants to put more teeth into its laws.
Currently, when prostitution is being offered with these businesses used as a front, a person is cited. Henderson now wants to deal with the business itself, rather than a merely having a person pay a citation.
To that end, Henderson may implement a day ban on granting licenses to massage establishments or reflexology businesses. The city plans to, but the idea is to create more consistency on massage and reflexology licensing, tie up loose ends in current laws and make a dent on human trafficking which Reid says is sometimes linked to massage parlors. He says the city would need the four-month window to rewrite the codes.
