Marvel Rivals features 3 core game modes, those being Domination , Convoy and Convergence , alongside 2 side game modes, those being Doom Match and Conquest. In Domination, two teams fight each other to hold control of a single point in a space called the Mission Area. At the start of the round, the teams must capture a point on the center of a mirrored map.
When players from both teams stand on it, it becomes contested, which means the current capture progress will halt until one team moves off the objective. If a team has captured the mission area, the opposite team can reclaim it. When a team contests an objective while the opposite team is close to winning the round, the game enters a special state called Overtime. While contested, the Overtime bar does not deplete until the contesting players are moved off the objective area. When a player recontests, the Overtime bar is NOT reset and will be held in the state it was stopped on.
Domination is played in a best-of-three setting, which means that the first team that scores 2 points out of 3 sets wins. Convoy is a mode where one team needs to escort a moving vehicle to the end of the map while the opposite team needs to stop them. At the start, one team is released free to set up their defenses and run to the attackers' spawn room.
After 30 seconds, the attackers are released and must capture a vehicle in order to escort it. The enemy team can re-capture the vehicle for it to roll backwards. If the vehicle is captured by the attackers, it'll begin to roll forwards by itself, speeding up while there are attacking players around it, capping at X players. When no attackers are around it, the vehicle will stop.
The map contains two checkpoints with each adding time to the attackers' advantage. The vehicle will not roll behind these checkpoints once they have been captured. Convergence is played mostly like Convoy, with the difference that the attacking team needs to capture a mission area first.
