Companion recruitment suggestion. Joined: Dec Firesong OP. I think many here agree that after the 1st playthrough act 1 gets a bit tedious without a magic mirror, for the sole reason that you basically have to plan the party around civil abilities if you don't want to have the annoying "out of money" issues. To make more colourful parties viable I'd like to suggest that we get "let me build you" when recruiting a companion as part of the game itself not a mod. I mean - seriously wasting a valuable point or even two into "loremaster" just because you want Lohse to be your wizard or enchanter?
At least civil points should be free for distribution. I don't want to be limited to either "no achievements" or "having to build a party around this table of starting abilities".

For each origin character you don't plan to take long term, make them a Shadowblade and use them to loot vendors. When looting, it is often better to buy what you want and then loot the gold back as gold is much easier to get rid of the "stolen" tag. Also, wait until level 4 or 5 to start looting so that higher level skills are available.
Plan your route through Fort Joy proper. Early on, the lack of gear is an issue. As such, focus more on exploring than fighting. A character with 13 wits should be enough to find the hidden access area in Fort Joy proper.
Later get that up to 15 when you are exiting the Fort area. I highly recommend doing Withermoore's quest line. If you are good at stealth this will gain you a lot of exploring XP and access to some decent gear so you don't need to buy any. I can typically get to level 4 or close to it before I do much fighting. Talking to the dog Buddy near the elf cave has 2 uses. It will get you the key to a room of source hounds. Make sure the character with Pet Pal talent goes first into the room. Second when confronted by the hounds, there will be a dialog option that references Buddy and allows you to skip the fight.
