Chicago police said just after 4 a. A man, 50, was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital for smoke inhalation and was listed in good condition. A man claiming to have a gun tried to rob the two paramedics in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood early Monday.
Darius Johnson reports. The medics were not armed, and they did not know if the robber had a gun. Nevertheless, they managed to flip the script with their bare hands. The incident happened after paramedics responded for a person having trouble breathing in Auburn Gresham. More than 5, unwrapped toys were given out at the school in Auburn Gresham. The event was organized by the nonprofit ChiGivesBack.
Paramedics took a child to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition. Firefighters also rescued a man from a 3rd floor window. Surveillance video shows the incident at the station on Oct. Chicago police said the two suspects approached a year-old man after exiting a black Nissan vehicle and fired numerous rounds.
The victim later died. Police said a group of two to four young men and teenagers and one female have approached their victims on foot and demanded their property. Chicago police said he was one of the four offenders who, less than one hour earlier, sprayed a chemical irritant at the victim while taking his vehicle by force on the same block.
While both shootings remain under investigation, under Illinois state law the victims' use of force at this point appear to be justified. The offenders demanded the victim's vehicle before discharging a chemical agent on the victim. Chicago police said the victim, a year-old man, was inside his vehicle when a group of about four unknown males approached. Chicago police said someone found the year-old man in the stairwell of an apartment complex with a gunshot wound to his chest.
