The Coon Rapids man had originally wanted an escort. When he tried to cancel, he got a bullet to the face. Prosecutors say Jeffrey L. VanDyke was shot after arranging a date on craigslist. After VanDyke told the woman when she showed up the morning of Feb. The year-old VanDyke survived and was able to describe the shooting to investigators. On Monday, prosecutors charged Brock A. Franklin, 22, with first-degree aiding an attempted murder. In October, Katherine Ann Olson was killed after she responded to a craigslist ad for a fake baby-sitting job in Savage.
James Stuart. Investigators linked the ad VanDyke had responded to and the telephone number he had called that morning to Franklin. He was arrested Friday in Minneapolis. If convicted, Franklin faces up to 20 years in prison. According to state records, Franklin was convicted in of third-degree criminal sexual conduct in Hennepin County.
VanDyke later told investigators he had contacted an escort service after spotting an ad about 5 a. He answered a knock at 6 a. She looked at a gun-wielding man who then approached the home. VanDyke held the door shut as the man tried to enter. Craigslist officials provided the unique Internet address of the computer that placed the ad to investigators, who traced it to a Minneapolis building where Franklin lived, the criminal complaint said.
And investigators linked the telephone numbers VanDyke dialed that morning to a number Franklin had used before. When questioned by investigators, Franklin said he had set up escort service accounts on craigslist and that a man in Coon Rapids had requested an escort on Feb. But he said two other men who were also along had intended to rob VanDyke, the criminal complaint said.
While he was waiting, he heard a noise and saw the woman running. She had blood on her clothing, complained that glass was in her eye and said they needed to go, the complaint said. He then said he and the woman left in her car, leaving the two other men behind.
