Meike Klettke, and the artist Julia Theek, showed the first professors gallery of the University of Rostock. The University of Rostock looks back on a year history, the history of women at the University of Rostock began much later. While women now study just as many as men, at the level of the professors it looks quite different: only every fifth professorship is currently occupied by a woman at our university.
And also in other management positions a similar picture emerges. Therefore, the exhibition should put the female professors at the university in the center of attention the anniversary is celebrated.
It should make their work even more visible and create female role models for female students and doctoral students. The exhibition will remain open until spring of in the vestibule of the Council Room in the main building of the university. The artist Julia Theek developed a common aesthetic denominator through a formal typification for a uniform design of the female professors gallery.
The visual habits of the everyday world of advertising and Instagram were broken and the portraits with division into color areas, emphasis on light and shadow in the picturesque excessive. In addition the face was brought in the focus, without background, multicolored light in contrast to the antique dark man portraits. Instead of the gold frames, sustainability was emphasized in the production: The round image carriers, which stand out 5 cm from the wall, are cans for film rolls.
To bring the different colors together, the film cans were sprayed by the artist and decorated with only a small gold rim. The Language Center, in cooperation with the Diversity-Management and the International House of the University of Rostock, offers a series of intercultural trainings for students, doctoral candidates and academic staff. The trainings are offered in German as well as in English.
