This article mentions that film at the endβbut NOPE. Never happened. Wearing a black polo neck, sporting two-day-old stubble and with the requisite Marlboro Light in hand, Martin Henderson looks every inch the A-list star he intends to become.
And chatting to the good-looking but clearly self-satisfied actor an old saying keeps popping into my head β if he was chocolate he would eat himself. Until landing a role in horror movie The Ring β which is released this week β Martin was a virtual nobody in terms of Tinseltown.
Yet he is no sudden sensation. There have been sacrifices and stepping stones to get from there to here. Although only 28, Martin has spent most of his life in the business.
Back then, I never thought that acting was more than getting paid for showing off. It was just a laugh. But that year I fell in love with the job. I realised how amazing it was to become someone else, to be something different. I wanted to get back to the real root of acting and away from the publicity and the fame. So I went travelling for a year then moved to New York and did an acting course.
After that I went back to Australia and took to the stage. That led to several film opportunities and I moved to Los Angeles. A Hollywood remake of a chilling Japanese movie, The Ring concerns a mysterious video tape that is doing the rounds β anyone who watches it dies after seven days. Martin plays her ex-husband Noah, who helps her uncover the tragedy at the heart of the murderous tape. But they become locked in a race against time to solve the puzzle before Rachel becomes its latest victim.
